Apparently Howard Schultz Was Asleep During the Midterms!

Democrats picked up more than 40 seats in the House, we only needed 23 to gain control of the chamber; While some of you might not remember that night, with all the news cycles since then.  I remember it vividly.  Democrats defended, fought and won in 10 seats that the President had favor in, 2 years earlier, 5 of them by more than 15 points.  (North Dakota, West Virginia, Missouri, Montana, and Indiana).’

Democrats won more than 367 state legislative seats and the American people elected intelligent, formidable progressives into office. We persevered and we spoke with our votes.  We told our officials what we wanted.  So then why did Howard Schultz insist on throwing his hat in the ring as an independent – for president?  Maybe this quote from his interview on Tuesday’s Morning Edition helps explain his thought process on that.

“I can’t think of anything that is a more quintessential expression of our democracy than providing the American people with a choice that doesn’t have to be binary between a Republican and Democrat,” Schultz told NPR’s Steve Inskeep

Personally?  I’m not buying it. He’s been a very vocal critic of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s 70% tax bracket for those who make over $10 million dollars, and his advisers have even said that his run is about being a fail-safe plan in the event Democrats nominate a far-left candidate in 2020.

Wut? Since when did equitable wealth distribution and healthcare for all Americans become “far left” for Democrats?  85% of Democrats and 52% of Republicans support Medicare for All.  Further complicating a presidential run, Schultz, whose net worth Forbes estimates to be $2.6 billion, holds 3 percent of Starbucks shares, posing a potential conflict that in some ways dwarfs the conflict posed by the Trump Organization. For one, Starbucks has staked much of its future on expected growth in China, where it enjoys an unusual level of access to local markets, operating its stores without an in-country partner.

“If there is a choice between President Trump and a progressive, liberal-minded person on the Democratic side, it would kill me to see President Trump be re-elected,” Schultz, a “lifelong Democrat,” said in his interview on NPR. “And I believe that’s what would take place.”

Julián Castro, a former Housing and Urban Development secretary under President Barack Obama and a contender for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, urged the former Starbucks CEO not to run.

“I have a concern that if he did run, that, essentially, it would provide [President] Donald Trump with his best hope of getting re-elected,” Castro said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, went further than Castro, tweeting that “vanity projects that help destroy democracy are disgusting.”

“If he enters the race, I will start a Starbucks boycott because I’m not giving a penny that will end up in the election coffers of a guy who will help Trump win,” ~ Neera Tanden

Schultz has a lot of nerve talking about “far-left policies”.  He’s willing to cut entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security as a means of eliminating the federal deficit.  But hey, don’t touch his $10 millionth dollar!

Schultz told the news website Axios that he was not worried about backlash. “I’m not considering this to win the Twitter primary,” he said. “I believe that lifelong Democrats and lifelong Republicans are looking for a home, and they’re not spending hours and hours on Twitter.”

Really now? Has he MET Trump? Has he seen the youngest woman in Congress’ 11.8 million Twitter interactions since the midterms alone?  His potential bid arrives amid a growing diverse pool of candidates, who know the power of social media and are openly primed and ready to take on Trump in 2020.  This ranges from Kamala Harris, the junior senator and second ever African-American female to serve in the Senate, to Pete Buttigieg, a mayor who, if elected, would become America’s first openly gay president.

Schultz is delusional, behind the times…even a little archaic even…right out of the gate, and that’s not a good start. Neither is coming out of the gate as a “lifelong Democrat” to run Independent.  Maybe someone should have shown him the results from the mid-terms.  The American people have spoken.  And the future of this country looks and sounds NOTHING like Howard Schultz.  It would be a  “Venti Mistake” for him to continue on this path.

Trump agrees, on Monday, he slammed Schultz on Twitter, writing that he “doesn’t have the ‘guts’ to run for President!”

Donald J. Trump

Howard Schultz doesn’t have the “guts” to run for President! Watched him on @60Minutes last night and I agree with him that he is not the “smartest person.” Besides, America already has that! I only hope that Starbucks is still paying me their rent in Trump Tower!

You can’t claim you love America, and then bash everyone for being “Un-American”, as he has done with AOC and Harris over the past two days, simply because they don’t appeal to every single one of your ridiculous sentiments about what America is.  Not from your billion dollar ivory tower you don’t.
We cannot fall for distractions, we cannot allow our voices to be muted.  Our energy, our fight has only just begun and it keeps growing.  What America needs is a Democratic nominee with a truly progressive policy platform to match.  NOT HOWARD SCHULTZ!
