This swing district nominee – a nurse and former HHS Senior Advisor – is primed to unseat Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren in her Illinois district.
This is the inaugural installment of our “November Democrats” series (additional info below).
The Democratic Challenger! Lauren Underwood (Campaign Website Link) is a Naperville native, nurse and former Department of Health and Human Services Senior Advisor for the Obama Administration. With deep experience in both the health care field and in DC, Lauren will be a knowledgeable and passionate champion for the expansion of access to health care.
The GOP Incumbent: Randy Hultgren has been in office since 2011. He won his last race handily 59-41 over Democrat Jim Walz. Hultgren voted for the GOP Tax Scam bill AND for ACA repeal. Gotta #FlipItBlue!

November Democrats Series:
At the national level, it can be hard to keep track of who is a primary candidate vs. a party nominee. DemWrite Press is here to help. As state primaries pass, we will periodically feature Democratic Party nominees from critical swing races in our November Democrats Series, to help you focus your support.
Because there will literally be thousands of Democrats on the ballot in November, this series will hone in and feature nominees (not primary candidates) in races highlighted as critical by Swing Left, the DCCC and/or Democrats Work for America.
Stay tuned for more candidate highlights in our November Democrats series. You can search for all of our highlighted swing race candidates under the “Categories” drop-down menu by selecting the “November Democrats” tag.
